Water Projects July 2024

WATER STORING SYSTEMS AND SCHOOL BUILDING

This july we are traveling to Santa Maria Cahabon, Alta Verapaz, Guatemala and building two water storage systems in two different villages, as well as, building one school for one of the villages. The village of San Pedro Marichaj and Chipajche have no running water and no electricity. The people and children in the villages have to travel to a natural spring to fill buckets and bring them home. The water use is then a limited resource for the families. Water is the most basic natural resource and we take it for granted frequently. Having access to purified water allows for better hygiene, nutrition and quality of life. MVA will also rebuild the school house in San Pedro Marichaj, which is currently built out of metal sheets, it has no windows and the heat inside makes it difficult of the students to take classes. In addition, this particular school house has dirt floors creating bad hygenic conditions for the children.

We are asking for monetary donations to cover transportation of the materials from the city to Santa Maria Cahabon to the villages, as well as covering the costs of the water systems and building materials. Part of the mission this time will focus on conferences given to the high school students in Santa Maria Cahabon, on education, motivation, determination habits and finance. MVA believes that education is the key to combating poverty and building a strong foundation for a better future.

We ask all our followers, friends and family to support us by spreading the news and sharing our donating link. We are excited to keep on serving. We are also grateful to all friends, family and volunteers who will join us this July!

LATEST NEWS:

FRIDAY, AUGUST 13, 2021

Dear Friends,

We were excited to announce that our next humanitarian trip would be September 2-5. However, after talks with local public health officials, it was decided that this trip would be cancelled until further notice. We were sad to be informed that there have been recent COVID-19 surges in these communities. For that reason, local health authorities are working hard to promote vaccination campaigns to protect the general public. A big thank you to those who have donated so far, and we vow to hold those contributions until they can be put to use on our next trip. As a reminder, any funds, medications, and other donations will always be used 100% for the population intended, and none of our volunteers or board members will ever use those donations for personal profit. Also, as medical professionals who seek to “promote health, education, and culture,” we encourage everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated and follow local recommendations for masking and appropriate social distancing.

Queridos Amigos,

Changes due to COVID-19

Dear friends, it is with sadness that we announce that due to the recent passenger quarantines in efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19, our healthcare trip to the village of Tamax on April 3-7 has been CANCELLED. We are deeply sorry for this change in plans. We are grateful for the constant support from our volunteers and collaborators in the USA, Guatemala City, and government officials in Santa María Cahabon. We will be on the lookout for dates in the following months when we can carry out this healthcare mission. As healthcare professionals, we advise you to remain safe, calm, and to wash your hands!

Upcoming project: July 2019

WE ARE HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THAT OUR NEXT HUMANITARIAN TRIP IS SET FOR JULY 26-30, 2019.

This trip will be focused on bringing free DENTAL services to the town of Santa Maria Cahabón and its surrounding villages in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala.

We are currently in need of graduated dentists and dental assistants for this project. Please contact us if you would like to volunteer; we would love to have you!

We are looking forward to this summer!!

We are happy to announce that December 14-18, 2018 will be the dates for the next medical trip to Guatemala.

We will be opening the free clinic to the public on Saturday, December 15 through Monday, December 17. We will use the 14th and 18th to travel to and from Alta Verapaz and Guatemala City.

The villages that will receive services include Secanante, Rumpoc, Cholwinq I and Cholwinq II. The rough location is here:

The populations are 799, 701, 147, and 105 people, respectively. Out of these four villages, Secanante is the only one that has electricity and running water. Additionally, this village has a school, community hall, sports court, soccer field, and a small creek.

Rumpoc, Cholwinq I and II, are approximately 5 km (40 mins walking distance) from Secanante. Homes in this area are constructed with cement blocks, steel plates, wood, and or a stick-and-mud mix called "bajareque." All roads leading to, and from the villages are dirt roads, and the distance from the department capital (with the closest medical services) is 2 hours by automobile.

We are in need of four doctors and three nurses who would like to volunteer for this project. Anyone interested can contact us by email at mvahumanitarian@gmail.com

We are so excited for the end of this year.
